Stawell, Victoria – Teenage sprint sensation Gout Gout is confirmed to make his debut at the 2025 Powercor Stawell Gift, Australia’s most prestigious professional foot race, during the famous Easter weekend carnival.
After bettering Peter Norman’s legendary national 200m record with an electrifying time of 20.04 seconds, eclipsing Norman’s iconic 20.06 seconds from the 1968 Mexico City Olympics, the Ipswich Grammar student has become one of Australian athletics’ brightest rising stars.
Gout’s breakout 2024 season has put the athletics world on notice with dominating performances on the domestic circuit, multiple national titles, and standout international finishes across Europe and the U.S. Now, he sets his sights on the hallowed turf of Central Park, aiming to join the illustrious list of Powercor Stawell Gift winners.
“I’m looking forward to running at the Stawell Gift in April! It’s going to be great to challenge myself on the grass for 120m,” Gout said. “I know the history of the event and have been watching some of the past races. It’s a fantastic event and I know the crowd will be ecstatic!”
Gout’s participation will be a boon for visitation to the Northern Grampians region, which has suffered from a fire affected Summer.
Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Steve Dimopoulos said, “The Stawell Gift is one of Victoria’s most iconic sporting events. It brings people from across the state and around Australia to Stawell every year, providing a boost for local jobs and businesses.”
The Powercor Stawell Gift has attracted Australia and the World’s best athletes across its 147-year history. Stawell Gift Event Management Chair, Murray Emerson, is pleased to welcome Gout Gout to this remarkable list of athletes.
“Gout is without doubt one of the most incredible young athletes that this country has ever seen and he will no doubt add that little bit of extra excitement to this year’s event. We are thrilled that Gout has chosen to add the Powercor Stawell Gift carnival to his schedule and we look forward to hosting Gout this year, and hopefully for many years to come,’ said Emerson.
Former local and Melbourne businessman, Sandy McGregor, has been instrumental in securing Gout’s participation in the carnival and is excited at the prospect of what Gout will bring to this year’s carnival.
“We are pleased to support such an exciting athlete to participate at this iconic event. Our organisation supports many projects in the Wimmera and Mallee for sporting clubs, education opportunities and other important events. The gift is a great 3 days spectacle and the addition of Gout will certainly help the crowd and atmosphere in 2025. Buy your tickets early I’d say.”
The Powercor Stawell Gift will bring together over 900 athletes from across the country for three action-packed days of thrilling competition. Renowned as Australia’s richest and most iconic athletics carnival, it continues to champion gender parity, with male and female athletes competing for an equal prize pool of $40,000 in the Powercor Stawell Gift and Powercor Women’s Gift.
Tickets for the 2025 Powercor Stawell Gift are now on sale at Ticketek, with tickets starting from just $18. For those that can’t make it to Stawell, fans can catch all the excitement live and free on Seven Plus across all three days of the carnival, with the Easter Monday finals airing on Seven from 11:30am AEST.
