Mana Sports and Entertainment Group proudly extends its congratulations to the TCS Sydney Marathon presented by ASICS for achieving the prestigious status as an Abbott World Marathon Major.
Announced on Monday morning (AEST), the TCS Sydney Marathon presented by ASICS now takes its place as the seventh Major alongside the six globally iconic events in New York, Chicago, Berlin, Boston, London, and Tokyo. It becomes the first Major in the Southern Hemisphere, expanding from North America, Europe, and Asia into Oceania to bring more runners the opportunity to take part in the world’s most prestigious marathon series.
This designation solidifies Sydney’s place on the global stage as a top-tier destination for marathoners, inspiring thousands worldwide to mark it on their bucket lists.
Last September the Sydney Marathon passed the final assessment of the three-year candidacy period in triumphant fashion after demonstrating strong athlete engagement, logistical excellence, and a commitment to delivering the high standards upheld by all World Marathon Majors. Apart from steadily growing participation by 400% since 2022, TCS Sydney Marathon, presented by ASICS’ ability to recruit passionately involved volunteers and enthusiastic spectators and supporters from run clubs around the region to give the event its unique flavour are also seen as major contributors to its success.
The event is now set to attract an increased influx of international and interstate runners along with their families, friends, and support teams, all eager to experience the vibrant and scenic race in the harbour city. Its first year as a World Marathon Major is expected to draw more than 33,000 to the starting line on August 31, 2025 with projected growth to over 37,000 by 2027.
