Expect blazing fast action as the world’s best wheelchair road racers take over the streets of the Rocks on the shores of Sydney Harbour as part of the official Australia Day celebrations held by the City of Sydney.
9-time winner Madison De Rozario and 2022 champion Jake Lappin return to defend their titles amidst a field of 20 athletes, ranging from decorated Paralympians to juniors taking part in their first GIO Oz Day 10K.
One of the nation’s most successful para-athletes, De Rozario is a two-time Paralympic gold medalist, the first Australian para athlete to win four gold medals at the Commonwealth Games, 10-time medalist at the World Para Athletics Championships, and world record holder in the women’s 800m T53 and formerly in the women’s 1500m T53/54. Since winning last year’s Oz Day 10K, De Rozario has gone on to claim her second London Marathon crown, a silver at the Boston Marathon, and a maiden Sydney Marathon win.
The best spectator vantage spots are on George Street and Hickson Road. Don’t miss the action and get down to The Rocks on Australia Day for some world-class racing.
The internationally-recognised race sponsored by one of the nation’s largest insurers GIO is supported by the Australia Day Council and Sydney City Council and managed by Wheelchair Sports NSW.
