Building the pathway to the One Hundred World Championship

Oct 6, 2026 | News

As the One Hundred World Championship continues to establish itself as a global platform for trail running, interest in joining the series has grown. To manage that demand while protecting the standards and prestige of the Championship, Mana Sport & Entertainment Group developed the One Hundred Candidate Event Program, creating a structured pathway for trail races seeking potential inclusion.

The Candidate Event Program provides a formal evaluation period in which prospective events are assessed against the standards expected of a One Hundred World Championship event. It creates a controlled pathway through which events can demonstrate their ability to deliver at the required level across safety, operations, course integrity, athlete experience, communications, brand presentation and environmental responsibility.

Candidate Events must demonstrate that they meet the required standards before they can progress. Participation in the program does not guarantee entry into the World Championship.

At the centre of the program is the One Hundred Candidate Event Scorecard, a standards-based framework that evaluates the systems and delivery of each event. The scorecard focuses on observable evidence rather than intentions, including documented procedures, operational plans, permits, safety systems and the delivery of the race itself.

Events are assessed across the full lifecycle of delivery, with key areas including:

  • Governance & Event Management: Governance structure, planning processes, financial discipline, insurance and operational controls.
  • Safety, Risk & Medical: Risk management, medical coverage, emergency response, communications and participant safety.
  • Course Design & Integrity: Course design, terrain suitability, marking, navigation, GPX accuracy and environmental considerations.
  • Race Operations & Delivery: Logistics, start and finish management, volunteer coordination, timing and race control.
  • Athlete Experience: The participant journey from registration and race preparation through to on-course support, the finish and post-event communication.
  • Systems, Data & Results: Timing accuracy, data management, results verification and reporting.
  • Communications & Information Management: Participant communications, emergency messaging, volunteer communications and crisis planning.
  • Brand, Marketing & Media Integration: Event presentation, One Hundred brand alignment, media operations, storytelling and promotional integration.
  • Community, Land & Environmental Stewardship: Land access, environmental protection, community relationships and participant conduct.

The framework gives One Hundred a consistent basis for assessing events operating in different environments and at different stages of development. It also gives organisers a clear understanding of what is expected and where further development may be required before progressing.

The Candidate Event Program builds on Mana’s broader experience in major event delivery and in supporting events through formal evaluation processes. This includes its work supporting the TCS Sydney Marathon presented by ASICS through its Abbott World Marathon Majors candidacy, providing relevant experience in the systems, standards and stakeholder requirements involved in progressing an event towards global series status.
